tzNIC hosts a .bw delegation Print E-mail
tzNIC was deeply honoured to host a delegation of 3 members from Botswana for a benchmarking exercise on future management of  .bw ccTLD. The .bw multi-stakeholder delegation had a representative from the BTA, University of Botswana and one staff from a Telecom operator. The 2 days (22nd -23rd July 2010) visit was hosted at tzNIC offices located at LAPF Millennium Towers, Dar es Salaam.

After the general introduction and office walk-around, the tzNIC team held a meeting with the BTA delegates for the purpose of exchanging ideas and sharing experiences. Among the issues discussed were:
  • ccTLD governance models (advantages and disadvantages);
  • Registry administration issues (policies, rules and dispute handling);
  • Technical requirements for a registry establishment (Servers, Internet resources, electric power, registry software, Internet connectivity, etc);
  • Operational models and registrars accreditation and
  • ccTLD redelegation processing.

On the last day of the mission, tzNIC team made a demonstration on how .tz registry (using the open source software called FRED - Free Registry for Enum and Domains) works. The mission was concluded with a wrap up session where tzNIC expressed the desire for continued partnership and appreciated for being chosen to be among their benchmarking sites. On the other hand, .bw delegates expressed their satisfaction on all issues discussed and promised for continued correspondence.
